Munich Lovibond...

I just brewed the Dead Guy Ale clone and it calls for Munich malt. Most of these clone recipes call for ~10L Munich malt when they call for Munich malt. The Weyermann light Munich is 5.1 - 7.0 L and the Weyermann dark Munich is 8.0 - 9.9. The Briess light Munich is 10L and the Briess dark Munich is 20L, so the dark Weyermann is less roasted than the light Briess. I ended up going with the dark Weyermann Munich. It probably doesn't matter a whole lot unless you're trying to exactly clone something but in any case this has been a community service message.

Thank you. I actually was wondering about that. My brew app has different Munichs, light, dark etc. Except my brew store only has one I think. I'm going to have to pay attention next time I'm in there. Do the variations have different flavor characteristics?

Dark weyerman is equal to briess light. They are different just like pilsner is different than american 2-row. Its less noticeable in the final recipe since you are only using 10-20%. The briess dark munich 20l however is very different and is not interchangeable.
