Whirlfloc tablets

OK I've always use 1 tablet at the 5 min mark right before flame out, or right AT flame out, but I have just read this suggested use:

"but I suggest whirlfloc tablets as they are pulverized irish moss and a hell of a lot easier to use. Just toss in 1 tablet at 10 mins in the boil at 10 mins left and you are good to go."

So what do all of you tipically do when using them?

I throw it in at the 15 minute to go mark along with the yeast nutrient and gotten really clear beers.

Humm.. Ive use the nutiant in my starters but never in the boil so that brings up another interesting question... ? Is that really needed in the full batch?

As far as the whirfloc tab.. like I say basically Ive only used one as well, and then chilled the Hot wort down fast thus forcign alot of crap to drop out before fermentation. just never heard of using 2 tabs one to start and one at the end.....?

1 tablet will handle more than 5 gallons of wort. Can cut it back to 1/2 tab even.

Cool. What about adding in the nutriant in the boil? like I say Ive added it to my starters before but not the entire batch.... Ok well I did have to add it into the Mead.

I have been using the Wyeast nutrient in my starters and a servo capsule when I throw in my whirlfloc. I just try and do everything I can to keep the yeast happy.

If you're adding nutrient, putting it during the boil is would ensure it gets mixed throughout, but some would be lost in the trub...

I've also dumped in a cap after pitching my yeast after forgetting during the boil. I figured carrying the carboy mixed it up just fine.

I think the servomyces package has instructions for both approaches, so I'm not sure what is more important. Do you want it all mixed in well even though you may lose some, or do you want to get all of it in there once it's in the fermenter? Both seem to work.
