Alright, I'll add it to my list of the 3 other times you were right.

I've got to catch up on the shows I missed before starting from the beginning all over again. I started to the last time I was all caught up but I lost my old iTunes info when my last PC died, so I don't know exactly how far I got. At least the files were all saved, just not play counts and the like. I've got a 30+ hour drive (each way) coming up which should speed up the process.

I have an annual kayak trip (18th year for the varying members of the group, my 8th consecutive) in the upper-middle of Michigan's lower peninsula (a bit west of Cadillac). Since the only freeway starts bending too far south around Minneapolis, and the fact that you couldn't pay me to go anywhere near Shitcago, I have to take regular highways across Wisconsin and the U.P. I think with fuel stops it was roughly 32hrs & 1600 miles each way last year. It's well worth the extra couple hours.

Luckily even though the CD deck in my car is about 10 years old, someone designed a cable that plugs into the CD changer port on the back and has an iPod connector on the other end. No control through the radio other than volume, but it plays & also charges off the car battery. I also have a 50 watt 2m/70cm dual band transceiver & a list of all the local amateur repeaters in between. I should have plenty of entertainment to keep me going.

I made the trip non-stop last year, but I also have a nice list of rest areas & other places I can pull off to catch a nap if needed since previous years didn't allow me to catch up on plenty before I left. If I get super tired, I can just dip my nuts in some beer. (I knew I could work the thread topic in here somewhere!) It also helps that I leave in the middle of the night so the majority of the trip there is night driving & I have less traffic to deal with.

I've done batches with toasted macadamia nuts and pecans before, separate batches. Had pretty good luck with 30 min addition thinking it's a good flavor addition time. Never tried putting them in the mash but would like to know how that does from from those that have.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the nutty goodness without getting the head-destroying oils into the beer?

I think the "meh" BA score of 85 is seriously underrating it. I'm a fan; if I could brew a nut brown that was 95% as good of it I would be pretty happy.

Pecans have quite a bit of tannins in the skin so I'm curious how you avoid tannin pucker face, too!



Any have a super nutty-tasting beer that DOESN'T have nuts? -I find BrewDog's 5AM Saint to be exceptionally nutty and the head always gets weird when it falls in like they're using a lot of specialty malt. (I have that happen with my "whatever's left in the closet" brews when I go crazy with the specialty malts, anyway.)
