Using refractometer to check S.G. of 100% Brett Beer

Fri Jun 06, 2008 12:19 pm

Brewed a 100% brett beer last week using Wyeast b. It bubbled and did its thing all week long. I checked it with my refractometer and it said that nothing happened and it still smells alot like wort. I grew the brett up about 2L starter. Everything I read says that all brett beers drop considerably the first week, then finish over the next 5-6 wks. Anybody used just the b. and have had success?

I'm fermenting my third batch of all Brett, and it has fermented pretty much just like normal beer yeast every time. I'm guessing your refractometer is not working, if you are seeing visual fermentation.

Which brett strains have you used?
I took a sample and checked with a hydro. dropped 10 points to a 1.034. Just gonna let'er sit. She's still bubbling away so hopefully 6-8 months and this slow ass shit will be done.[/quote]
