same yeast from wine to beer?

First I will let you know that I am a cheap skate, and I made a starter with bread yeast for a batch of wine. So I was wondering if It would be bad if I harvested that yeast from the wine and used it in my next batch of beer if it is rinsed good. :drink

If you're a cheapskate, why not spend money on the yeast rather than potentially ruining a whole batch of ingredients?

Bread yeast = not ideal
yeast stressed by fermenting high alcohol = not ideal
wine = high alcohol

So...
reusing bread yeast used to ferment wine = Not ideal + not ideal

But it would likely work... albeit in the same manner that most all cheap skate methods do on every thing else... not ideal. :wink: It'd likely have attenuation problems, a few off flavors, etc... but technically you could pitch it in some wort and get beer. It just won't be very good IMO. Guess it depends on your personal ratio of cheap skate to palette tolerance factored with a 'give a shit' coefficient.

Yeah, you would get something... my main point is that if you are paying good money for malt and hops, it would be a waste of that money (the fear of all cheapskates) to use poorly suited yeast. Perhaps if you got the malt and hops for free it would be more in keeping with being a cheapskate, but then if you get that for free, you should be better able to afford to shell out $4 for a good packet of dry at least.
