When fermenting in kegs...

Make sure the blow-off disconnect is really on. After 2 days, I just noticed that the disconnect/blow off tube I have wasn't all the way on. In my haste, I just popped it in without thinking how much pressure was already built up.

HOLY SHIT! That thing turned into a straight-up wild-ass whirly-gig. Took me about 15 seconds to grab a hold of it, but the damage was done. Now I gotta spend the rest of the day wiping down the walls/ceiling in our laundry room.

Been there, done that. I went even one better many years ago. I accidentally hooked up the blow off disconnect to the beer side. Once fermentation started, it began pumping beer so fast that the tube popped out of the blow off jar and sprayed all over the kitchen ceiling and walls! Won't make that mistake again.

I made that mistake also on my very first lager. I kept wondering why my blow-off jug was full and who the f&*k was spilling beer in my fridge!! Lucky for me it wasn't a a fast fermentation! I think I only lost a gallon before I realized it.
