Hey all-
So I just got out some DME and nutrient to make up a starter for tomorrow's brewing, and it was then I realized that I forgot to take my yeast vial out of the fridge a few hours earlier. I need to go to bed for an early class tomorrow, so no starter tonight. The thing is, tomorrow is the only time I have to brew for a while, and I really want to get it done. So, if I pull the yeast out of the fridge now (1:30 AM) and make up the starter in the morning before I go to class(7:30 AM), will it be alright to use it by any reasonable hour tomorrow evening? I normally give my starters about 24 hours, and I have heard others say they do even longer. Would there be any negative affects from using a starter that has only been going for 12 hours? I should add that the beer I'll be brewing is only about 1.048 OG, so I am not too worried about underpitching. Would skipping a starter altogether be better? Thanks for any info.

Can you tape the vial to the side of the starter flask so it reaches the same temp quicker then pitch?

Luke warm water bath to warm up the vial possibly, then pitch?

Starters normally take me about 30 minutes to do, I just pop the vial in my pant's pocket and that warms it up fairly well and then santize for a minute before pitching to the wort. If you need to sleep first, sanitize the vial and then burp it and then tighten the cap back on.That will help wake up your yeast. I think I picked up these Pearl's of Wisdom from Doc.

Are you making a starter or are you just happy to see me?

It worked fine. I made the starter at about 7:30 AM, pitched it at arbout 11:00 PM, and by the time I got up this morning the airlock was bubbling like crazy. I had a pretty productive brewing day yesterday - bottled up one batch and brewed another. Feeling pretty good about that because I don't have another day off for a while. Happy brewing all,
