Strange Color Change

Tue Mar 22, 2011 6:16 pm

I brewed my 5th and probably last extract batch Sunday night and pitched just after midnight at about 75* and put the carboy in my basement. It is my first time doing a Belgian Abbey Ale, my previous batches have all been IPA and Stouts.

I was surprised to see Monday morning the airlock was already bubbling away pretty quickly less than 8 hours later. When I got home from work I walked downstairs and the carboy was throwing a lot more aroma then I have had with other batches but other than that all seemed normal, color was a little lighter and cloudier than the night before as I normally see with the yeast going. It is fermenting at 65*.

Today I got home and went to make sure all was still going well and was surprised when I took the cover off and the color was much, much lighter and than it was Monday night.

Curious if this is something I should worry about, could it be infected or is this normal for the style/yeast. I am using Safbrew T-58.

Completely normal. You have a shitload of yeast cells in there going nuts.
