Do I Have An Infection?

Sun Sep 05, 2010 11:11 pm

I brewed an IPA and 6 hours after pitching my starter the foam at the top of the batch has a lot of bright yellow stuff. Is the batch infected?

Even when I pitch bug blends it takes a long time to see funky action. I don't think an infection would form in 6 hours. Its probably hop matter in the top of the foam

Without pics, my guess would be hop matter.

Hop matter or Krausen flotilla. Either way, RDWHAHB! I had an Eisen Bock go south. I noticed when I was 7 weeks into fermentation and there was still some slight bubble action around the edges. More like a fizz. No off color noticed. Sure enough, it tasted like gasoline soaked cabbage. :jnj

Gasoline soaked cabbage? Man where can I get some of that? Aging that one will turn into a frozen turnip over time.
