starter for a lager

Thu May 27, 2010 8:21 am

i want to brew a czech pilsner this saturday. (my first lager)

i can get a starter going this evening (thursday). i was figuring about 30 hrs on the stirplate and then chill in the fridge for 24 hrs before i pitch. how flocculant is the lager yeast wlp800? is 24 hrs in the fridge enough to get the yeast settled out before i decant?

i dont know about WLP 800 but in my experience, if you have healthy yeast going into your starter, your starter should settle in no more than a few hours even for poor flocculators. After i make a highly flocculant WLP002 english ale yeast starter, my starter settles within minutes.
2 and 2 always makes a 5
