Rice Solids Question

Thu Apr 01, 2010 7:20 pm

I want to increase raise the alcohol level in my beer. I have .5lbs of rice solids that I plan to add to the fermenters. (2, 5 gallon fermenters = .25lbs each) My ABV is 2.8 right now and it's been that way for a month. I'd like to get 3.5. Am I waisting my time? My OG was 1.050, present is 1.030. I figure I have to get to 1.023-ish.

Thanks,
Frank

I just added 400ml of dissolved rice solids (boiled) with a gravity of 1.160 to one 5 gallon fermenter. I used 1 cup of rice solids for the 400ml "injection." Muhhhuhahahhahaaaaaaaa

I'll let you know what happens...

Also, this is the same batch of beer as this post: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=19242

1.050 to 1.030 is not very attenuated. +1 to Sheen, pitch an active starter and see what happens.

Well, I bottled the Kolsch tonight and the FG was 1.008. This sucker fermented like nuts when I added the rice solids. I had pitched yeast a few times after initially underpitching, but could never get it going. So, before I dumped the beer I decided to experiment and see what happened. The beer looks right and smells right, but I wont know till I taste it. I'll let you know what happens.

I've never actually seen anything published that states the fermentability of rice syrup solids. Are you sure its fermentability is that high?

Actually, Palmer lists rice solids at 42 ppg on page 245 of How To Brew.
