Aerating after yeast pitched?

In the last Zymurgy (Dark Side of Lagers), the author mentions aerating twice the rate you normally would for the bigger lagers. Ok, I get that. But then in the article, it says you may even consider aerating again the next day.

I know in a lager that yeast are most likely still going through propagation phase a day later but would you really want to aerate again and a day later? Or do you think they're getting at more yeast growth? If so, is pitching at the right rate going to negate this "next day aeration"?

I would probably not aerate the next due simply b/c I have never needed to with a lager. I would think a sufficient sized starter should be able to get the wort fermenting without the extra day's oxygen. Although I have heard of people aerating big beers more than once before fermentation gets rolling.

I try to give it a 2 min shot of O2 every 6 hours until I see a krausen start to rise.

My lagers have been taking 3 days to form krausen.
Primary: Nada Damn Thing IPA
Secondary: ESB
Kegged: Jack Schittenweiss

Prolly not enough healthy yeast. I just pitched my vienna, and had a decent krausen within 24 hours.

I have a beer krausining and there wasn't a whole lot of head space in the fermentor for oxygen so I just opened her up and let some air in and then mixed it around... I'll let you know if the beers keep, or oxidize after bottling ;)

Nah, on this particular one I pitched at 55. It was down at 50 when ferm started.
