Harvesting Yeast from a blow off

Mon Nov 16, 2009 7:55 am

Everytime I use a blow off tube I see a bunch of yeast sitting in the bottom of my bucket of star san solution. I was thinking of building some kind of elbow trap to collect the yeast from the blow off. Does anyone have a method of collecting yeast from the blow off? I was reading..I think in warners book on weizens..that the yeast in the bottom of the fermenter is only viable for a couple of re pitches while the top harvested yeast can be re used indefinately. I have been working on my weisse biers and am looking for ways to save some money. It always seemed like a waste to throw away that yeast as it seems pretty clean and is not mixed up with all the break material. Any thoughts?
