First Batch (Healthy Head?)

Sat Oct 31, 2009 9:35 am

I've just purchased all the equipment I'll need down to bottling for a homebrewing operation, and I've gotten my first batch fermenting.

My question is, since I'm quite new at this; is this a healthy looking head? Is the brown aggregate interspersed into the head yeast, or could it be some other organism that I've introduced into the batch on accident?

I can't see the pics, but the krausen you are describing sounds like what the Germans call "braun hefe", meaning "brown yeast". This is perfectly normal. Most of it is dead yeast and hop resins.
