port/ beer?

so port is wine that is fortified with brandy (a wine based spirit), originally this was done to shock the yeast and leave a sweet wine.
has anyone ever messed around with this concept as related to beer?

Randy Mosher talks about this a bit in his book Radical Brewing.

A bunch of us were discussing this very topic while admiring the still at Lucky Bucket Brewing last week. The thought was to make some "beer schnapps" and use that to fortify an already strong malty beer.

A side note on this is that when Zac was doing a shake down run of his new still, he ran a substandard batch of his Certified Evil beer through the still. It is allegedly sitting in an oak barrel somewhere aging for the next few years. That might be some interesting shit if it ever sees the light of day.

Another effect of the brandy in port is to make it extremely stable for long overseas journeys (or aging).
