I am getting ready to build a fermentation cabinet, I am sick of the ice in a bucket method. My question is should I use a fan to force air into the cabinet from my beer frig, or should I run a pump and use a water reservoir ?

I built a fermentation cabinet of the "son of a fermentation chiller" plans. It works ok but I really got sick of changing the ice over and once I'd purchased all the bits it probably would have been cheaper to get an old deep freeze or fridge with a thermostat. Much less fucking about and energy wise, running a fridge V's making a shitload of ice? I dont know how that would come out but I'm guessing not much different. On the question about the fan, the one I built has a computer fan, that works really well and for simplicy and cost a fan should beat a pump any day.
Happy building

You can pick up an old freezer for next to nothing and the oldies go on forever. What you will need is a suitable digital temp controller for the wort and this will make your fermentation soooooo much easier.
Cheers, Hoges.

I already have a new beer frig. Replacing the old one will probably pay for itself in a year. The old friges run forever, but they cost a fortune to run. Plus, I get to get in the shop and build stuff. Thanks anyway. I think I will run two 6" PVC pipes to the cabinet from my frig, one for intake ( small Fan on thermostat) and one exhaust.
Tried that English ale yeast the other day, man that stuff works FAST...thanks Tasty (CYBI)!
