Conicals that are affordable?

Has anyone looked at or are using one of the tanks from here?

http://www.tank-depot.com/product.aspx?id=854

Seems very reasonably priced, 15 gallon for $57 bucks, plus fittings, 40 gallon for $104.

If you're going to go conical, what are the cons of using one of these, besides that the top doesn't completely lift off like Blichmann (I already own a 27 gallon Blichmann) or B3?

All you appear to need is to install a racking arm, and something to go from 2" NPT to drain - that should be easy, no?

I think one of the biggest concerns with plastic is that they have a better ability to harbor bacteria, due to scratches from cleaning or inperfections during manufacturing. Another big issue is oxygen permeability, my guess is that it will be much greater in one of these vs. stainless.

Not bad - have to deal with Plastic (Polyethylene) though. Makes me want to get one to try it out. Good drawings on the website, and big dump port, 2", and the graduated 1/2 gallon markings is great.

$30 shipping cost to my door step and $60 for the stand, though. $147 to get it to my house, then fittings. I bought my Stainless conical with stand and fittings for $235 delivered, 7 gallon. Make your own stand to cut cost?? Too bad they did give the beer outlet port as well.

Nice find though! Good job!

As with anything in life, you get what you pay for. My Blichmann conicals were worth every penny I spent on them. They've seen almost three years of continuous use with absolutely no issues and I fully expect them to last a lifetime.

I'm with you Saco. I have a 27 gal blichmann, but as I look to increase my fermentation capacity to close to 3 bbls, $200 plus some fittings for two 40 gallon fermenters starts to make sense vs. 10 times that for Blich's.

That is the one that I puchased. No complaints other than the lid lock down and SS material choice for the legs. The seller added a temp gauge I see. Works well. 1.25" lid hole for a -12 bulkhead fitting and silicon or nitrile seals or use a #7 stopper. I modified a #7 stopper to use a stainless pipe to barb fitting and blow off hose. Works well.

Ball valves are good as well. No stuck trub dumps after 5 batches, and I added a Stainless 90 degree elbow so I could modify the legs to fit it into a 5.5 CF refrigerator for temp control. FYI
