Transferring question

So I feel a bit dumb asking this, but I'll use it as a learning experience.

I've got 10 gallons or so of cider that I'm transferring into secondary today to let it clear a bit more before I bottle it.

It's been in primary for a LONG time and I plan on bottling it next week or the week after. So, do I need an airlock on these carboys? Could I just put a carboy cap on them and vent it a couple times a day in case the transferring stirred up any beasties?

Thanks in advance

I've never done a cider, (don't read 'I've never done it in cider"... ) but if it was a beer, I would stick with an airlock. Also, if you are feeling lazy... you could go with the tinfoil wrapped over the top of the carboy... A carboy cap would work too, but with an airlock/tinfoil, you won't have to worry about venting or anything.
