Adding O2 to stirred starter

Is there any point in adding O2 to a yeast starter at the beginning when using a stir plate?

I hear some people do that. I never have. Seems like one more opportunity for infection, with not much benefit. Stirplates should ensure adequate gas transfer (O2 in, CO2 out).
