You want to avoid large, rapid, temp swings during fermentation and after bottling.
During fermentation you will not get a clean fermentation.
After bottling you will notice the aging process effects sooner. If you tend to drink your beer quickly and are not trying to cellar it for years then don't worry about temp swings after you bottle condition.
