Is this an infection?

Sat Oct 30, 2010 9:08 am

I brewed a sweet potato ale last Sunday... I had to split the batch in two separate buckets... The fermentation went great and is now finished.., I opened them up to fine and noticed on of the top of one beers was a film (very thin film that caught bubbles coming up) didn't really smell any different... Could this be an infection? Should I just dump the filmy beer?

taste it, its not gonna kill you if it is infected. dont dump it just because it looks infected, it could be perfectly fine beer.

More than likely it's just newly evolved CO2 and some yeast riding the CO2 bubbles to the surface. Dry hopping gave you some more nucleation sites. I have my first sour going and the pellicle took a few weeks to form, not just a few days. Also, it's my understanding that nothing can live on hops that will infect your beer.

Cool thanks I'll give it a taste... Worst case I'm only out a half batch! I'm hoping it's just what brew chem suggested...

my guess it looks like the start of a pellicle.
