Carboy Parka

Wed Jul 21, 2010 8:42 am

All,
My fermenting freezer took a shit the other day, so I need to rethink my set up. In the past I fermented in one freezer and lagered/aged in another. I’m wondering if I put a fermwrap around my carboy and put it in one of these: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/c ... arboy.html will I be able to lager and ferment (ale temp) in the same freezer? In the end a new freezer is required to keep up with production, but I think a $60 parka will be an easier sell with the accountant. I wonder how insulative these things are.

Hey crupp, I think that it can handle that temperature difference.

I just wrap a jacket around the carboy and I have been able to ferment ales and lagers just fine in conjunction with a fermwrap and temp control. I use my freezer for lagering and I serve out of the same fridge I fermemnt in. I have an unused lightweight gortex jacket that works fine.
