Fermantation Temp Control/Keggin

Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:04 pm

So I am a bottler. I am wanting to move to kegging and also I want to get some better control of my fermentation temps. Now I am dealing with limited space and the girlfriend will not let me have multiple fridges and freezers. So I am looking for advice on what I should get. I think I am only going for 2 taps for the time being. What would you guys recommend?

A large freezer and using carboy belt or going with a fridge setup?

go with a new girlfriend that will embrace your hobby....not hold you back.

OH, sorry, that wasn't an option???? Go with the freezer and belt.

If you can only have one fridge, fermentation control will drastically improve your beer. A small chest freezer or mini fridge doesn't take up much room or cost much. Then when your beer gets even better, your girlfriend will suggest you build a draft system so she can have half glasses at a time because she loves it so much, but a bottle is too much. Plus it will look bad-ass in the living room!

But you could buy a larger chest freezer and put a few taps on it, and leave some space for carboys. Add a fermwrap, a temp controler to each carboy and set your freezer to 40-45 and you should be good to go.

I invested in 2 5.0 CuFt Oster fridges. One for two kegs and the other for fermentation control. I seem to be filling the ferm. control fridge with bottle beer being I have to modify my conical's legs to fit in it. As for the other fridge, 2 kegs sucks. I am limited to only 2 beers at a time, and hate to down the kegs myself being my friends are far from the homestead. I wish I had a 6 keg system so I can brew more, a chest freezer to fit under the work table. I guess what I am trying to convey is go as big as you can or this hobby can nickel and dime you to death with bad purchases.
