Fermentation Box

Tue May 04, 2010 8:55 pm

Hey,

With the summer approaching I am looking harder at feasible temp control options. One option I am looking strongly at is building a fermentation box.

My Idea is to build a box to contain a mini a/c unit and my carboy. I would have the box insulated to keep the temp as controlled as possible. The one issue is I don't know where to start in looking for a mini a/c unit, any idea on where to look?

Thanks,

Sean.

I use a Johnson digital temp controller and a fridge. There were some plans in Zymurgy or BYO where they made a wood box and put cpu fans and trays of ice in the bottom. Swamp cooler basically. I've also seen some there where they used a water pump to pump water from a garbage can where the fermenter was to a container in a fridge. It also used a temp controller.
JZ mentiond a way to modify a normal window air conditioner unit in some podcast. It was a way to adjust the temp range via a screw? Some ideas.

Save yourself the headaches, get a fridge/freezer and a temp controler. I built a fermentation chambre, used it a cople of times, then it got used as part of a brewstand for a while, after that I took to it with a hammer. It is no more. Get a fridge!

+1

Get a cheap fridge off of Craigslist. My fermentation boxes are no more also.
