NEED HELP! Aeration troubles

Sun Dec 20, 2009 3:36 pm

My aeration (not oxygenation) system is not bubbling. I can see no bubble at all. I just bought a new diffusion stone. It is a oatmeal stout so maybe I cant see them. Is this normal with stouts or is my aeration system broken? Thanks!

do you have the ability to move the stone closer to the edge of the carboy?

Take the new stone out of the tube and see if you're getting flow. If so, it's the stone. Go to a pet store or something a get a new one. If you have no flow from the tube with the stone out, sounds like the thing is broken.

Thanks I will try that. It is really hard to get those off without cutting the tubing.

If you're using an aquarium air pump, just take the hose off the pump. The pitch of the motor should change pretty drastically if the flow through the hose and out the stone is restricted significantly. This way you don't have to take the stone out of the wort.
