If so, 1T =1/2 oz, so it would be 24T. Unless we're talking dry ounces, which would be specific to the product. In which case, I have no idea.

I think you are using the correct amount, the other person might be confusing the units. The package says to use 1-3 oz per gallon, or 5-15 T for 5 gallons - 12T is right in there.

I use about 5 gallons of solution for cleaning carboys and 8 gallons for the corny kegs.

When I first started using PBW I got out the scale and measured how many tablespoons (volume) per ounce (weight) and all that and came up with 3 tablespoons per 5 gallons. I wrote that on the jar and haven't thought about it since.

The solution at that strength seems to work really well ,for weeks at a time even. I clean kegs with 5 gallons, then leave it in a bucket for soaking labels off bottles. Even after a month it still feels slick and cleans stuff.

Hard for me to imaging 4x the concentration would work better.

All I can find is the Five Star .pdf that states 1-3 ounces per gallon. Seems like a pretty big range. But 3T seems pretty light according to the instructions.

Here is some information from this old BN thread:

...All our powders have recommendations by weight, whereas our liquids are by volume. We find that one gently rounded teaspoon of PBW is about 1 oz by weight...There are 3 US Teaspoons per 1 US Tablespoon. Thus, about one-third of a tablespoon is about one ounce.

Also keep in mind that in our Five Star Homebrewer Cleaning and Sanitizing kits we pack about 2.25 oz per packet and instruct that to be added to 5 gallons of warm water. That is as low a concentration as 0.4 oz per gallon and is quite effective. In other words, for the home brewer, a little less is better than a little more to control your costs with PBW while still getting 'er done.

Looks like we have a discrepancy between what the Tech Sheet says and what the chemist says! I have another discrepancy to throw in there. I just called home and asked my daughter to weigh a tablespoon of PBW and she reports 14g, or 1/2 oz. Something is funny, because based on the above quote I expected it to be more like 3oz! Maybe they are making it fluffier these days?
