Howzit from Cape Town!!

Hi Guys..

Been lurking here for a while so decided to eventually sign up as there is so much going on!

Have been brewing since about October 2013 and started on All Grain straight away...sort of a "jump in the deep end" kind of trick.

I have also "brewed" three extract beers, just so that I could try the style but also to have something for my mates to guzzle instead of my AG beers. I'm sure I'm not the only one with those kind of mates... :drink

Anyway...looking forward to interacting with you folks from around the world...

Yours, in brewing.

Welcome.

Any trouble finding ingredients in that part of the world?

Thanks!

No, not really. Homebrewing has taken off quite quickly here in SA and there are a few suppliers already. Our biggest problem is sourcing specialised equipment at inexpensive prices because the market is still relatively small. Things like grain mills and large volume HLT's are very expensive due to supply and demand regulating prices.

On the grains and adjuncts side, they are relatively cheap, making for some great brews by both homebrewers and the number of craft breweries that have sprung up around the country, but I expect the prices of those will balance out at some point too.

Welcome to the forum! A good friend of mine lives in Cape Town, and I am planning to send him some homebrew soon. I'd like to visit Cape Town one of these days and try some of the beer there. From a recent interview with Left Hand Brewing, a SAB milk stout was the inspiration that brought the style to America.

Thanks!! You will love Cape Town! The commercial craftbrew industry has exploded here with loads of great places and brews to choose from. Also, get your mate to send you some of SAB's new Castle Milk Stout Ultrasmooth. It is carbonated with nitrogen rather than CO2 which gives it a silky texture and mouthfeel...really good!!
