I'm new, but I been Around

I am new to the forum but I have been listening to the brew casts for awhile now. I just listened to the Christmas 08' show this morning, funny as always. It's going to take awhile but I intend on catching up to real time this year.

I have been involved with home brewing since 1992 but I spent may years going overseas and never really put the effort into getting beyond just following the confusing recipe that came with the kit. That has all changed now that I am home for good and stable. I recently converted a 24 cu ft freezer into a kegorator and a dorm freezer into a fermentation chamber.

Currently on tap I have a London Porter from NB. It finished a little high and is a bit cloying. Up next is a Baltic Porter, Irish Red and the Dead Ringer Ale, All from NB.

I am inspired to try my hand at competing soon. The things I have learned listening to the show have been outstanding .

I am excited to be a member of the forum and a part of the BN Army.

Liquid or dry yeast on this? If liquid, I recommend looking into doing starters, as you seem to be diving back into the hobby. Yeast health or numbers are a common cause of beers that don't finish out correctly.

Also, it's only necessary to post on a topic once. Forum users can click on the "View Active Topics" thing to see anything posted recently. Streamlines things and keeps the forums a bit less cluttered with duplicate posts, as well as making it easier for you to follow people's responses and suggestions.

Sorry about that, I didn't realize my first post needed to go through the moderator before it showed up on the forum.

I used a liquid yeast on this one. I did use a starter, then I let the blow-off tube get clogged and probably blew most of the fermenting yeast all over the back wall.

No worries on the double post, there are 1st timer restrictions in place to avoid spammers. That stuff is kept locked down here, I've never seen a spam post. Once you are deemed a 'real boy' (or girl), you're good to go.

Did it go through any major temp swings?
