To heat the water I use a bucket heater like this. Depending on where you buy one, they run $30-$50 plus any shipping.

Thank you! That might be exactly what I need. I like your idea in another post of using it to stir the mash when you miss your step temp. I am deploying for much of the remainder of this winter, but now I can't wait to get back and try it!
