Keep it clean and your first beer should taste delicious. Then you can spend the rest of your life pursuing an even better tasting beer.

The kit I bought is a nut brown ale. I don't see that one turning to crap very easily. I'm picky with beer, but not if I'm the one making it. It's like cooking: the fact that I made it adds some kind of extra flavor that makes it taste better to me than it might actually taste to the rest of the world. :)

Yeah, I worked in food for three years, I'm mildly OCD (not joking, I SHOULD receive treatment), so sanitation is something I kept up with BIG time. Even if my cat SNIFFED the equipment, I re-sanitized it. After kicking the cat out of the kitchen.

Not quite clear there, re-sanitized the cat or the equipment?

Brown ale is a perfect choice for a first brew. It has enough flavor to hide all the little flaws that may be there.
