hey from a new guy

Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:58 am

I have just started listening to the show last week and have already gone through 5 of the archives. I have loved every min except for daniela leaving (what the hell). I listened to the show live last Sunday and that was very cool.

I am also new to brewing, that is how I found your show looking for some good info to get started. I definitely found it. I have more confidence and hopefully will maintain that confidence through the first few disasters.

Welcome to the Brewing Network! As you have probably figured out by now, we take both our brewing and our fun seriously. I mean, why have a hobby if you can't have fun while doing it?

Anyway, if you have any questions, just ask. Most of the time you will get a bunch of really good answers and well as a few stupid ones. The stupid ones are easy to spot so ignore them.

In case you haven't already you should check out John Palmer's online book at www.howtobrew.com. This will answer most of your basic questions about getting into brewing. Better yet, get the the third edition hard copy version. If you can only own one brewing book, that is the one to have.

Next you need to get into the chat room on Sunday nights if you haven't already. Things were pretty quiet in chat last Sunday due to the slide presentation on another site. Most of the time we are pretty rowdy in there.

Welcome again!

Welcome!

I second buying "How to Brew". It is a really great book for a beginner but you won't outgrow it too fast. I have Papazian's book also but if I could only have one it would be Palmer's. I would also recommend "Designing Great Beers" by Ray Daniels. I am learning a lot from both the Palmer and Daniels books.
But I'd rather have a bottle in front of me,
Than have to have a frontal lobotomy.

I did check out the chat but it was hard to follow the slideshow and the chat and keep refilling my beer, so the following the chat was a third priority.

Palmer's book is already on my list. I am buying a friend’s beermaking supplies in total (he had to give up drinking for medical reasons), and he assures me he has the definitive brewing book. It sounds like palmer's book but he is not sure. If it is not it will be my first purchase. I will have to check out the book by Ray Daniels. Thanks for the tips.

This is getting to be an alarming trend. This is the 3rd or 4th time I've heard that refrain in as many months.

I know cirrhosis exists, but never really thought about it as a beer problem. A buddy has gout that gets irritated from beer. I suppose diabetes might also be hard to manage. Obesity might be an issue.

So what the hell is it that is dropping our colleagues?

Oh, and welcome to the BN!
