West Michigan brewer nearing 2 years of brewing

Sun Nov 04, 2012 12:28 pm

Hey gang. I signed up a little bit ago and am finally getting around to posting. I've been brewing for almost 2 years now and still find brewing to be a very enjoyable hobby. I found the BN a little less than a year ago and have been burning through as much of the archives as I can on my 2 hour per day commute. I'm an IT manager for a trucking company with long term dreams of switching to something in the craft brewing community.

Started out extract brewing with a nice kit my wife and parents got me for Christmas. After 3 extract kits I jumped to BIAB but after a year of BIAB and not getting consistent numbers I've finally added a mash tun. I've done 3 batches on it so far and am still dialing things in. 60qt cooler and a converted sanke keggle for 10-12 gallon batches at a time. Ideally I'd like to move this to a 3 tier system and hopefully convert to some PID controlled electric brewing.

I also started a West Michigan Homebrewers Facebook group if anyone's interested. We are currently working on our first collaboration project of a Founders KBS clone. I have a 53 gallon whiskey barrel sitting in my basement just waiting to be filled! https://www.facebook.com/groups/westmic ... mebrewers/

Welcome. A little bird tells me a lot of homebrewers will be heading out your way in 2014. Looking forward to that trip.

Welcome! When you come to Big Rapids let me know we can share a few beers at Crankers. Mills is a great brewer and a better teacher. I have learned a bunch from him.
