greetings from Indy

Sun Jun 24, 2012 6:47 pm

I'm a relative newbie, just about to graduate from partial mash to all grain system. still working out my processes and ironing out some kinks. Latest development - freezer for cold crashing after several batches with off tastes. Interested in connecting with other brewers east side of Indianapolis.

In bottles - a dubious batch of scottish ale, now priming - a better batch of scottish ale, next up Porter, after that IPA.

Great forum, thanks for the active management

Welcome. How do you know cold crashing is going to fix your off taste?

Premature cold crashing can actually result in off flavors.

Welcome.

Cold crashing is fine but having the chest freezer to control temps throughout fermentation is better. Even raising the temp a bit at the end of fermentation may re-absorb some of those compounds hat contribute to the off flavor. What is the off flavor you are getting?

Welcome Britboy. I live in Carmel. I'd be happy to hook up for a brew day sometime soon.
