Well guys,
I'd seen one of these a while back and thought, "That would kick ass if I could use one of those on my homebrew to mimic that nitro head." Well, that time has come!!!! Found one on Ebay...

First, a little history behind the surger: A couple yrs ago, Guinness decided to release the "Surger"... It essentially hits the beer with ultrasound waves to pulse dissolved gasses out of solution to create that famous Nitro-like head... They shipped most units to the UK and China, however, a few bars in test markets here in the USA got some too.... I think Guinness was hoping to appeal to bars and restaurants who didn't want to carry mixed mixed gas just to dispense guinness... Plus, nitro pours take forever to do right and in the restaurant business, time is money!!
They released ultra-low carbonated guinness in cans to be used on the unit.. Regularly carbonated beer will make a HUGE mess!!! Since guinness has dropped the project, people and bars who have the unit have no use for them as, like I said, reguraly carbonated beer used on it will overflow into a mega mess... However, as homebrewers, we can control how much CO2 we put in our beer!!!

when you say "low" carbonated stout, how low are we talking?

Yet to be determined exactly how low carbonated because I got the unit after these beers were carbed. These beers were poured and allowed to sit so a lot of the CO2 could dissipate...
I have a stout fermenting now that I plan to use solely for the surger... I'm gonna start with 1 vol of CO2 and work my way up...
Personally I think 1 to 1.5 vol is gonna be just about perfect!

I hate you for this. Couldn't wait till I got one to tell everyone about it. Bastard.

A local bar used to have one of those... I haven't been back since I tried it a couple years ago. I wonder if they still have there's I could unload or if they sold it back to the distributor.

I want one of those big enough to use with a carboy for degassing wine!
