Black IPA and India Dark Ale make no goddamn sense...

- It has nothing to do with India
- You can't have a BLACK PALE ALE! It's retardedly contradictory

and cascadian dark ale is the most retarded beer name I've ever heard. Not only would I never brew a beer of that style, I would never purchase a cascadian dark ale from a brewery that made one.

Nobody gets butt hurt over: English Brown, Irish Red, or Munich Helles. Why would Cascadian Dark be any different?

I've read the BYO article so realize the tongue in cheek response

I've been to England, I've been to Ireland, I've heard of Munich. I've never heard of Cascadia. England and Ireland are countries, Munich is a city, Cascadia is apparently just an area? I haven't ever heard anyone say "I'm taking a vacation to cascadia", but I have heard people say "I'm taking a vacation to Munich" and hell, I've taken vacations to England and Ireland.

I guess my beef with the name is the same issue the BA had with it. It's too location specific. I'd prefer something without such a specific location in the name.

Imperial IPAs (or Imperial anything but stouts) have nothing to do with emperors/empresses, so you lose that one

Um because it's a giant mouthful and trying to be really clever but really just sounds obnoxious and over-thought? If it didn't say Cascadian I don't think anyone else would think it was so stupid or douchy sounding. Why not just say Pacific?

Maybe because England, Ireland, and Munich are real places we've heard of and have nothing to do with Canada. Just sayin.

My stance is that adding Carafa and/or Sinamar to an IPA is not a new beer style. It's a new color of an exiting beer style. We can do better than that can't we? I say promote the American Brown Ale out of the homebrewing world for all to share in its goodness and throw the Black IPA back into obscurity where Cascadians have managed to keep it for years. Those that miss it can order a Pliny and ask the bartender to pass the Sinamar. We all win then.
