I like the BitTorrent idea because of the bandwidth sharing. The BN would not get hammered and I think the BN Army faithful would definitely keep their torrent clients open to help share the wealth. I currently do this now with the Dave Matthews Band shows (DMB has an open live show sharing policy) and it works like a charm.

The torrent thing is very unlikely. Download metrics like count / ip / location are essential and are lost with that method.

Right now I'm working my way through the archives just to glean as much as I can. I do donate as I think I owe BN something for what I have learned and use, hell I pay for my college loans and dont use anything I learned there, but it took me a few months of listening to decide it was something I should be paying for. I'm trying to get other people listening, and if that means referring them to archives of shows that cover something they are interested in that's how i do it. I just don't see people finding the show on their own to be willing to drop cash on something that they don't know if it will be useful.

Another thing to think about is new people who have questions that may have been covered(a month back, 6 months, a year) the quick answer is usually a summary answer to the question then a reference to the archives. I don't think a terse answer then saying if you subscribe you can look back to see what was said about this in a passed episode is a great way to welcome new people.

I know we're not just trying to keep the BN on the air, this is J's job I envy and feel bad for him at the same time. He wants to make the best experience but he does have to eat. Having listened through much of the archived Session(and pre-Session) episodes and a lot of other the content he's made some wonderful improvements, with the help of the BN Army and sponsors and some personal sacrifice.

back to pretending I'm working, didnt proofread this just stream of thought.

True, but if the alternatives are not having the material online at all then you're not getting any downloads (or metrics) at all.

That said, I could see something like an annual membership working just fine. I already donate $5/month either way.

The way I understood the discussion was the most current shows would be available on itunes; everything else would still be free on the website for manual downloads.

The subscription was for unlimited itunes access, but i could be off base. I passed out half way through the show.

I think your metrics are already shot as I have seen several other places hosting your podcasts that you can stream.

If you give me examples I can fix that.

After looking, I am not sure that my above statment was entirely correct. As now that I look at it they are all podcast sites. So they may be accounted for by your metrixs. I could have swore I listened to some of the early Jamil shows on a private site but I can not find it. Sorry for the miscommunication.
