The "View new posts" link below the word "Members" up on the top right is the way to go.

I set my shortcut to the BN Forum to that url (see below).
Only new msgs show up, and if you don't like the title, you don't have to click on it.

I've used that a couple times before but I don't use cookies or auto login or save passwords, ever. So my link goes to the login page. Secondly, I always read the forums when I first wake up & when there's a good technical post I often like to think about it while I'm at the early morning job... the mind-numbing, need a trained monkey job... & when I have that great insight & come home I can never seem to find the thread back unless I've initially navigated to it via the tree/subtrees. Then there's always the OCD thing about seeing a tree or topic lit up & just having to click on it to clear it.
