Ok so I am just going to add rants to the end of this topic, that way I don't create another topic for each one...
Rant on Carbon Emmissions
So I am driving to work this week and NPR is doing a big what to do on carbon emissions or some such shit. See what I have to listen to when certain slackers are "retooling" their weekly (or weakly) radio shows... NPR you douche, Oh the Humanity! ANYWHOO I get to thinking this whole "global warming" thing might just be a bit overblown. Now don't all you tree huggers and whatnot get your panties (or knickers for you Brits and Ozzies) in a bunch. Note bunched underwear is annoying I know how this term came about, you just feel all discombobulated when your junk is twisted... I don't like that, Sam I am, I do not like my ham on my gams. Ok as I was saying let me throw a few facts out there and see what sticks... Note I am not an environmental scientist or a liberal so what I am saying COULD be wrong, but I doubt it. Oh also before you get above mentioned panties, knickers, thongs, briefs, speedos, grape hangers, boxer briefs (which rule by the way), etc in a bunch please finish the entire rant... assuming it ends. WELCOME TO TRAIN OF THOUGHT THEATRE!
Ok so the "facts" as I understand them.
1. Carbon emmisions are bad (notably in the form of CO2)
2. You cannot create elements, only use what already exists (exceptions for nuclear reactions on some elements but that is way above where we are going here.)
3. Carbon DiOxide is 1 atom of carbon and 2 atoms of Oxygen
4. CO2 is formed when carbon containing materials are consumed (burning, digestion, etc.)
5. CO2 is consumed by plants during photosynthesis and O2 and sugars (carbon chains) are formed within the plant for food.
So lets think back several million years, perhaps billions... WTF cares... A LONG time ago anyway. Earth was here, plants, dinosaurs, Larry King. Lots of that shit died (not Larry King) and became covered by material that did not allow the carbon to be consumed as CO2... all these plants were taking CO2 out of the air and converting it to O2 (ahh fresh air) and plant matter.... so these plants die and are covered up with silt and rock and shit and over time turn to .... coal and oil and stuff. The atmosphere must have been a HUGE percentage of CO2 because all that carbon is now coal, oil, natural gas, Larry Kings farts, etc. Sooooo by burning all these "fossil fuels" we are returning the earth to it's original state... that is fucking noble if you ask me... are we so selfish that we want the earth to serve us, perhaps we should serve the earth. Ever think of that you sandal wearing freak? Didn't think so.
Deep breath...
Ok, so perhaps that is a bit over the top? Perhaps not? Either way lets consider the movement for "carbon neutral" etc. First of all CO2 in beer and soda is almost always reclaimed from other processes (fermentation or industrial) and not using it would not prevent it's escape into the atmosphere. (Rarely is a carbon source ever used solely for the purpose of creating CO2, CO2 production is almost always a byproduct and reclamation process from some other industrial application.) So don't worry about your beer or soda's CO2, it would have been there anyway...
OK lets say we didn't make beer... we just used that barley (or wheat) to make bread, and cookies.... guess what when you eat that bread or cookie, you just made the same amout of CO2 as you did if you fermented and drank it! Also know what... growing the grain removed an equivalent amount of CO2 from the atmosphere! So other than production costs and transportation, beer is carbon neutral... DRINK UP! Ok so my point is sometimes we get a bit stupid when we worry about our carbon load, (your breathing is 900g per day... that's like 2 pounds, or 700 pounds per year, that's somewhere arond 30-40 metric tonnes of CO2 in your lifetime ass hat). And those of you who purchase carbon credits, you are doing a good thing (assuming the credits are good ones not bullshit ones) but don't think for one minute that it makes up for what you are doing, that is bullshit. Use less carbon fuels that will help you carbon load, not credits... they are bullshit almost always. That is for you AL GORE don't get all high and mighty that you use 10 times the energy as the average AMERICAN (and we probably use the most worldwide per capita) but it's ok because you spend a few grand on carbon credits... be greener period. (is it redundant that I said PERIOD then follow it up with the actual punctuation?... hmm)
My suggestion to all is try to be more efficient, it is good for several reasons (economic and potentially environmental) waste and innefficiency are silly... but don't be stupid or militant about it, and if you really want to reduce carbon emmissions... kill all the people, and animals... but of course their rotting corpses will create a bunch of co2... then forrest fires because people won't be able to prevent them... then the rotting trees.... fuck we are screwed either way.
A final thought... Earth Day was origionally created (for among other reasons) to reduce and prevent global COOLING (the majority of scientists agreed at the time that the earth was cooling and potential disaster was around the corner)... no shit... look it up. So we really don't know what the fuck is going on... don't be stupid or wasteful, but don't be a paranoid fanatic either.
