In many households it is the custom to put an angel on top of the Christmas tree. However, few people know just how that custom came about. Here is the way it was explained to me.
It started one Christmas Eve many years ago. Santa was getting ready for his annual excursion. As he was putting on his pants, the seat ripped right out of them. So he pulled them off and took them to Mrs. Claus to fix. She got right on that task, but she forgot about the Christmas cookies in the oven and burned them all to a crisp. While Santa was putting the fire out, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer called in sick.
The head elf ran in about that time to report that while carrying the bag of toys out to the sleigh, the bag broke and all the toys fell into the mud and would all have to be rewrapped. This would take hours. Santa called in everyone to help and they finally got them all wrapped. However, when they loaded it onto the sleigh, one of the runners on the sleigh broke off and the jack wouldn't work right. While Santa was down on his hands and knees in the mud struggling to get things fixed, the Christmas Angel walks up to him carrying a Christmas tree. She innocently asked Santa, "Where should I stick this?"
Now you know the rest of the story.
Merry Christmas All!
