what to do with extra beer

Wed Dec 12, 2012 2:41 pm

I am brewing faster than my wife, friends and I can drink. I guess I could bottle the beer up but I would run out of storage room quickly.

What is everyone doing with extra beer?

If I can only brew when I have keg space I will never learn as much as I want to.

You could do what I do when I have to much. Drink faster!

Think about making smaller batches or throw more parties.

My friends just had kids and one pair are building a new house so no one is helping to do their part.

When I need more keg space, I bottle from the kegs. When I run out of bottle space I have a beer purge where I give the bottles away to friends/anyone who wants it. The added benefit is that by bottling and storing for a few months, you get to really see how good you cleanliness and sanitation is.

Get new friends at your LHBS and try to find beer drinkers with good palates for feedback.
8 1/2 hrs at work + 2 hr of commute still gives me plenty of time to lower inventory.
Make beer that has good malt and hop characteristics, good mouthfeel (which is absent in a lot of beer)
Dont punish drinkers with 150 IBU beers. Focus on the late aroma additions and the dry hopping when making an IPA, not just dropping an ass ton of bittering hops into the boil.

If your beer occasionally taste crappy you know it so dont ask someone to try it.

Good beer disappears quick!!!!!

I serve my beers at a lot of beer festivals. The cost of a keg of beer is generally less than what I would have had to pay for admission to the same festival. This also gives me a platform to evangelize about homebrew and craft beer (usually giving a plug for the BN as a resource for them to check out) and I still get to check out all the other beers. Get yourself into a good club. They will help you drink your beer and will also have inroads into getting invited to serve at festivals.

That's awesome. I need to see if I can do that.

I agree with buug. My brewery has just begun to encounter this problem. Apparently i love making beer more than I love drinking it . I haven't been able to serve my beer at many festivals but the ones i have have been a blast! Theres nothing more honest than the general public's opinion of a beer(if you don't tell them you brewed it). And there is more than a fair share of thirsty freeloaders at my local homebrew club meetings. My plan for this month is to fill some growlers and bring them to my company Christmas party, the more turnover the better. I try not to make shitty beer but if i do make a boo boo I've got a friend with a still...
