New to this list and to brewing. Have watched/participated in a few extract brews; decided to jump in with both feet and go all grain.

I'm sure this topic has been around the block several times, looked but didn't find anything recent. Forgive me if I missed it---then just point me in the right direction.

Are there any recommendations and pros/cons about available brewing software? Beersmith seems to be a popular version.

Beersmith has a few quirks, but it is the software to use. Hit up the free trial if you don't want to shell out for it up front untested.

The newest version with the recipe cloud has a ton of great reference recipes available for download as well.

I still use ProMash & love it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to spend some time figuring out how it works. It's not as intuitive & user friendly as the newer programs. BeerSmith came out after I was already comfortable using ProMash, but I tried it out for a couple batches. It's nice & likely the best choice for those new to the brewing software game, but personally I'll stick with ProMash. Most of the software has either a trial period or a shareware version; I would try out everything you can get your hands on to see what suits you best. A great feature to some may be unnecessary filler for others.
