Big Brews?

Wed Mar 21, 2012 8:01 am

Didn't big brews used to be a 'thing' around here? I think that's what they're called, just something where once a month the BN gets together, brews the same beer and talks about it? Would anyone be down for doing this again, maybe incorporating some manner of beer exchange?

I don't know if I've seen that, but I'm interested. I think a lot could be learned from the experience, especially if we could create a standard log on how to keep records from brew day to finishing.

You mean like the forum competitions from years ago? I remember hearing about those on the archives.

Something like that or even just some exchanging of the 'same' beer or style would be pretty cool. Throw in some commercial swaps too as long as you're paying for shipping, sounds like a you're on to something.

There have been a few community brews. We all decide on a recipe and then exchange our beers for evaluation.

I could go for that again!

Even for those of us who can't ship because we're poor, I figure it will be an interesting exercise. Mylo raised a good point in a PM about shipping rates, so that might put a bit of a damper on things. I would honestly be psyched to do some simultaneous brews just because it will a) get me out of my little "these are the styles I like" box, where I'm safe and cozy, and B) give me something talk about with you guys.

Another option would be to do tastings at the big events, maybe pre-game or post-game some festivals or somesuch. Save on shipping and get us out of the house to meet interesting people. I've noticed I've got a few BN'ers around me, maybe just local community tastings or something? :drink:

I would be up for this or maybe even a group effort to try to come up with a clone recipe for a well known beer.
