Beer blending at the bar

Hi guys,
there is a trend I am seeing that I have not seen discussed much--beer blending. Someone goes to a bar and asks for 1/2 of a pint of two different beers. Almost like a black and tan but without trying to separate the layers. I would think a brewer would see that as insulting but am I the only one who thinks this? I won't go to a restaurant and ask for two entres, half portions, all scrambled up on a plate; I would be telling the chef his recipes are flawed and that some nobody is telling him how to fix it...am I just a jackass?

When I was at Lost Abbey with BDawg, one of the regulars named Dawn blended some beers for us at the bar. Tomme Arthur didn't seem to mind.

The De Struisse Sunday Session episode has a bit about blending.

i don't think there is anything wrong with it. Taste is subjective. My local brewpub has a nice red and a decent ipa. the red isn't hoppy enough for me but has a great malt body and the ipa is a little out of balance, mix em together and i get a nice hoppy red. i do it all the time. the brewer doesn't care because they know people like what they like.

We have a brewery here that blends and the brewer himself has designed several of them.

I agree. Craft beer has a lot to do with finding your tastes and experimenting with flavors. Blending finished beers is an easy way to accomplish this.
