Brewer's Assistant on Android

A buddy and I started writing a brewing app a while back. Long enough ago there were no Android brewing apps at the time. We procrastinated long enough that now there is competition, but what the hell. Right now it's a recipe viewer (reads in BeerXML format) and you can share the recipes. It also has a shopping list function. Here's our webpage on it:

http://www.oneguyinabasement.com/apps/brewer/

And here's a link directly to it on the Android Market:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.oneguyinabasement.brewer

Eventually we plan to have a full featured version that has mash timers, calculators, etc.

Downloaded.

Looks great. Will it eventually be a recipe formulation app? Or just a viewer after using Beersmith? Either way, it'll make brewday a lot easier not having to leave the laptop on all day. I look forward to the Refractometer calculator the most.

We will eventually have all the usual calculators. The recipe formulation is up for debate. We originally were planning to, but I'm wondering how many people really want to formulate a recipe on a small device such as a phone. Then again, tablets are becoming more popular and mainstream... I dunno, what say ye? Would this be something useful or just a novelty that fades and people go back to their PCs to formulate recipes? I suppose it is nice to have something like that in your pocket for the impromptu visits to the LHBS.

BTW, it's not just BeerSmith, it's any software that adheres to the BeerXML format. Although we're finding many out there that don't adhere too closely to it, which causes problems in our app. C'est la vie!

In my job I have times where I am more engrossed in formulating recipes than I am looking at an xray screen. Normally I just doodle on a blank piece of paper then punch the numbers into a computer later on. If I could do it on my phone, I would use it.

So what we'll do is contact your employer and ask them to pay us to not put in recipe formulation, with the understanding that you'll be more productive.

j/k ... thanks for the feedback, this will help us make that decision.

(and for the record ... I'm PDub's buddy)
