Hey Army!
So, here in Los Angeles - gotta plan to open a brewery/brewpub with friends (eastsidebrew.com). Headed up to Portland, OR in January for some music and beer research. Who and What are doing the best things there? I used to live in P-town 8 years ago, things have changed, many new little brewpubs happening - wanna hang out with some brewers, ask questions, get info etc. Not looking for Full Sail or Bridgeport scale, but small start ups. Suggestions?

Don at the Horse Brass is always a great guy to talk to if you get the chance. If nothing else he could steer you towards some of the other kickass locals. Maybe you already knew that from living up there before but I'll throw it out there just in case.

Cascade/Racoon Lodge
Migration
Coalition
Breakside
Columbia River
and Hair of the Dog
These are all New breweries or ones that have just opened up new locations.
Look up chupalahomebrew on here. He brews for Alameda Brewhouse and could probably hook you up with the names of the people to chat up at said brew house's.

Awesome choices!
Double Moutain in Hood River (60 miles east of PDX) is worth a look!

and if you go that far into the gorge than you have to hit up Walking Man brewing, they are one of this area's best.

Thanks guys for the tips - keep em coming if there are more. Found this place called the Mashtun on line - and yes, the Horse Brass! Used to live around the corner on 45th!

the mashtun is the 2nd worst brewery in Portland behind the tugboat in my opinion. Muddy diacytl laden flavors in my opinion.
while not brewery's Saraveza, Apex, the Beer Mongers, The Hop and Vine, Concordia Ale house, Bottles, and Belmont Station are all kick ass bottle shops that feature killer taps. ( Saraveza being my personal favorite)
