Cigar City Tasting Room Facing Closure ... Please Read

Wed Nov 10, 2010 9:49 am

Hey fellow BNers. I haven't been here in a while, but I wanted to bring something to light.

Tampa City Council is attempting to shut down my local brewery's tasting room/wet zoning/brewery beer sales. This will cost more than a few people jobs and it will also mean I won't have anywhere to hang out at lunch. All jokes aside, they are doing great things for the community and beer community at large. This is the result of a few ignorant, uneducated people abusing power.

Cigar City was guest of the BN a few months back and desperately needs any support you can give.

Please click on the link below and send a few emails or make some phone calls.

Thanks.

Here's a little snippet from Joe Redner (owner of CCB):
Last Thursday we went to get our temporary wet-zoning made permanent and to extend our hours of operation. Since we have operated for two years without incident this should have been a rubber stamp. But, due to politics, a willful lack of understanding and what I personally believe is just a downright embracing of unfair practices, we got a 3-3 vote (you need 4 yes votes) and had to reschedule.

Our next trip in front of the Tampa City Council will be December 2nd. My birthday. We need 4 votes at this meeting and a following one or we lose our wet-zoning on the 16th of December. This means no more Tasting Room, no more special events, no more limited release parties, no beer for sell, at all, at the Tasting Room.

email sent. I specifically scheduled my new years trip to Tampa to try some of their beers and visit the tasting room. If it's shut down I'm gonna be pissed ;)
