Finished my challenge.
I started listening to the brewing network to become a better home brewer. I quickly found Brew Strong and The Jamil Show which are packed full of detailed information that can help make you a better brewer. The initial Jamil show series on styles were fantastic resources for learning about different styles. The shift to Can You Brew It brought in Tasty and the ability to learn about commercial recipes and cloning. Fantastic info! Brew Strong with Jamil and Palmer can give you all the theory of brewing you need to get started along with their numerous books.
The Sunday Show has some great brewing information from the guests mixed with Justin’s continual shameless banter. Dan Gordon’s episodes are chalk-full of knowledge as the man is a walking encyclopedia of Bavarian brewing history and knowledge.
Then there’s That Other Show (Was it Lunch Meat or was it Lunch Meet). That Other Show hits a sweet spot in brewing radio by removing all hope of finding any information that will make you a better brewer. Justin and JP cut right to a full hour of information that will have no impact on your homebrew and definitely displays a complete disregard for anything good or decent. Here some highlights that I managed to capture during my listening time on the first ten episodes: The one minute rant, a review of Dick Cheney’s hunting incident, The LM Limpics, stories about an internet dating match between mom and son who called themselves Sweet Juliet and the Prince of Pleasure, replays of clips from guest visits from the Silent Jamil, No Pants Friday, St Patrick being kidnapped by Pirate (or Unicorns), contests on naming the current shapes in Lucky Charms, etc..
Here are the things that are good about LM, brewing club highlights are a good thing, occasionally, they manage to get a call in from Charlie Papazian or Shaun O'Sullivan (don't know how or why), you don’t have to think while listening (after all - it’s Friday), it’s only 1 hour long, and it’s not broadcast that often. Thankfully I also remembered a listener comment once made to Jamil about listening to his shows in double speed. LM is definitely more interesting in double speed. The listening time is cut in half and I dare say that Justin’s timing is a little better in double speed as well.
Not sure if this makes me deserving of anyone’s vote but I’ve done better than that other guy and didn't back down from the hazing challenge.
