The only thing I know for sure that if you worry about everything that could kill you or make you sick you will die or become sick from the worry. So I don't worry about that shit too much.

To be honest... I work for one of those chemical companies. We make the coatings that line a lot of those cans. The real danger that the FDA is concerned about is in baby bottles. When the plastic containing BPA (which is primarily used to make the bottle shatter resistant) is heated to a fairly high temp, there is the potential for the BPA to leech out into whatever liquid is in that bottle. The worry with BPA is also that it will affect infants and very young children... later in life.

BPA has been used since the 1950's. The worry is with children being exposed to it at such a young age and for so long. There needs to be a lot more breast-feeding in the world!! Your beer can really has nothing to worry about. We are still using BPA in a lot of our coatings. We are also working on a water based coating because of the demand from our customers to want to shift from BPA - not for safety reasons, but to appease consumers.

Now... I'm not a chem engineer or anything. I'm an IT guy, but I still stay up on things that affect my company. Hope this helps...

And... I agree with BrewBum

Whenever these arguements come up I start to think the same thing. So I usually just say something like "Recent research shows that breathing kills, you should stop."

Dubba:

Since you like to stay up on things, this caught my eye today:

As for the "everything kills you" argument, I guess smoking is okay, asbestos is fine, as is leaded gasoline? Sure, you can't eliminate all the dangerous stuff in your life, and you may still get cancer, but I'm not going to knowingly promote it.

Yeah... read that yesterday. I'm not too worried about it. Many believe that eating too much red meat will give you cancer - I still love mine medium-rare. What's the verdict on eggs this week... are the good for me, bad for me?? How about that high alcohol beer you're probably drinking?? Not worried about it killing your liver are you??

You fear what you want to fear... you trust what you want to trust.

But to answer your question... Yes, most cans of any kind will have BPA in the lining. Do with that information what you will.

Lets see, in my lifetime...

Coffee gives you pancreatic cancer.
Coffee has antioxidant flavinoids that prevent cancer!

Babies should sleep on their tummies so they don't throw up and choke on the vomit.
Babies should sleep on their backs so they don't asphyxiate in the bedclothes.
Babies should sleep on their sides with a weird foam wedge to hold them that way.

Eggs are full of cholesterol and are very bad for you.
Eggs are full of protein and are very good for you.

Sunshine gives you vitamin D and a nice healthy tan. Put on some baby oil and lay out all afternoon.
Sunshine gives you skin cancer. Go inside or put on more sunscreen and a big hat!

Bacon makes you fat and whole grain bread is diet food.
Bread makes you fat and bacon is diet food.

Fish is "brain food." Eat all you can get.
Fish is full of mercury and will rot your brain. Eat only rarely.

You don't have to wear a seatbelt in a car, but you have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle.
You don't have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle, but you have to wear a seatbelt in a car.

There are a few more, but they evade me now. Must have eaten too much fish, or been laid down the wrong way as a baby, I dunno.
