Agree that Blue Moon is a gateway beer, and of the worst kind, too (a Coors product masquerading as a craft beer), but if BMC wants to financially support/promote a show that helps educate people that there is other, better beer out there, I am for it. I feel the same way about the Budweiser ad on the back of Zymurgy: no way I'll buy/drink a Bud, but thanks to them for their support of the revolution.

Look forward to meeting you at NHC 2011. :bnarmy:

I forgot about the corn spit preview. Good point. I guess until Justin gets his own Discover show it's all we got.

We are planning on going to SD for NHC. See you there! :jnj

I still haven't watched it since Discovery won't post the full episode on their website!

However, I have already had 3 new people say they were interested in brewing beer to me last week. One is my dad, who I have invited to brew a thousand times. He just watched the commercials and got excited about drinking something different from Natty Ice. Then two other guys I know have asked about brewing.

I think part of the show is just getting more people excited about beer, helping them to see its so much more than a bubbly clear liquid that's triple hopped and tastes like piss.

So I imagine a bunch of people will be jumping on the supposed 'bandwagon' over the next few months, and I agree if even half of them catch the fever then the homebrewing/craft beer industry is all the better.

And personally, my town needs it really bad. I can either buy BMC or choose between 30 run of the mill Pale Ales & IPA's at the best liquor store in town.

Thanks for the connection between Sam C. and Keanu Reeves! "I know kung fu"

What a fickle bunch we are!

There is a show on TV about craft brewing and you find fault with it? It is for entertainment people not to make better beer.

Sam is a rock star in the brewing world and well deserved. If you have been to any beer fest and seen the lines for DFH you'd know this guy knows what the fuck he is doing to make and sell his beer. He makes good beer and markets the shit out of it.

Craft brewing needs a face that can get attention. Let's face it, the man has personality, looks, fame and most likely fortune. He is made for TV. He can make the girls swoon and drink more 90 Minute IPA. WHAT ARE WE COMPLAINING ABOUT!!!!???

Good show. I liked it. Much luck to you Sam. I hope the show takes off.

I like it, but I wanted more than a beer version of Ace of Cakes or American Chopper. It looks like future episodes will have more traveling, which is what I want. If I wanted to hear how awesome DFH is for an hour, I'd go to the brewpub, or hang out at BeerAdvocate.

For fucks sake guys it was the first fucking episode. All first episodes usually suck, go watch the Simpsons or Seinfeld for example or hell the Sunday Session.

I don't think it will be for us entirely but I doubt they will just advertise for Dogfish head the entire time and if they do, oh well. I have never in my life had so many people tell me about this show before it was on. Everyone that knows that I like craft beer was telling me about the show and they were excited that they may provide me with beer information I didn't know about. That is great.

As for BMC advertising during it, shut the fuck up, I think I have heard Justin on many occasions say he would take money from Auggie if he threw it him. It wasn't like the show was pandering to BMC, they dogged them several times during the show. Granted, people don't realize that Blue Moon is made by Coors nor do they care, but it is a gateway beer, like it or not. The Sony connection is a little bit of a sellout but again, any Craft brewer would jump at the opportunity to expand their audience. This bashing of a guy because he gets successful in all forms of life just pissess me off.

I watched Food, Inc the other day, a must watch, and the organic guys get crap for selling their products at Wal-Mart and one of the Organic producers retaliates with the fact that Wal-Mart buying organic means that that much less fertilizer and other harmful things are taken out of the food supply. Same goes here, for every Dogfish Head that gets bigger, that is one more 12 pack of BMC not sold, I don't care how it happens.

I am not a Sam guy, I think he is personal-able a good image and I think his beers are Ok, but he is the right guy to get on TV first with a show and make it successful for a general audience.

Don't get me wrong, I like DFH beer. The 90 minute is one of my favorites. I admire them for pushing the craft brewing envelope. My problem is that Sam takes himself waaaay too seriously now.

I also realize the show wasn't designed for us. Even though almost everyone I know brews, we're a miniscule portion of the market. The behind the scenes look at the planning of Bitches Brew was interesting. I didn't expect them to be spouting off mash temps and original gravities (but I was hoping nonetheless). Perhaps the show will entice a BMC drinker to pick up a six-pack of microbrew instead.

By the way, I never even noticed the advertisements for Blue Moon, etc... I turn off my brain for commercials.
