More refrigerator for beer than food

When we were cooking recently she asked if we could have a beer

Something seems wrong with that statement. When I'm having beer my wife usually asks if we can start cooking.

I agree - weird

I usually have the beer in the glass first, then fire up the stove/BBQ...........

It's kind of hard to bone out a pork shoulder and drink a beer at the same time.
